Classic misogynistic perception that if men display particular emotions, its just “normal,” or “strong,” or whatever the term (always a positive one though) may be. If a woman shows any sort of intense emotions though, she is “crazy,” “shrill,” “emotional,” or “hormonal.” These labels are a way of silencing and dismissing women, a way of keeping us quiet and brushing us aside. A way of degrading and oppressing. Glad you wrote this. A topic which needs far more discussion in our culture than it gets! The book “Rage Becomes Her” touches on this very topic in significant depth- you should check it out :-). Excellent read.
